Living in China
Living in China is different from other parts of the world, but also has many similarities. There are IMAX movie theaters with current releases in English, Starbucks coffee, shopping malls, and other Western conveniences. Most cities offer efficient public transportation, as well as services similar to Uber. Food options are plentiful and varied, from all varieties of Chinese food, to even Western restaurants and chains such as McDonald’s for those needing a taste of home.
Convenience and ease of living in China is second to none. Anything you need, from food to home goods, can be ordered online and delivered to your door, usually even on the same day. China utilizes very little cash for payments—your smart phone and the WeChat app are all you need. Similarly, apps to navigate the language difference are easy to use and make navigating language differences more manageable. No matter the language, though, a smile always goes a long way.
Many of our teachers have commented on the level of safety they feel when living in China. Family and community are emphasized. Education is greatly valued and teachers are highly respected. There are cultural differences and adjustments to be made when living in any foreign country, but life in China is similar to many other parts of the world and you will soon feel at home.
